Ditch Duale and Murkomen if you want to be president - ODM MP tells Ruto

- The MP accuses Duale and Murkomen of choking Ruto's ambition for the presidency

- Hamisi said undermining Uhuru-Raila peace deal was a disadvantage for Ruto

- He wants Ruto to stop Duale and Murkomen from talking on his behalf

An opposition MP has advised Deputy President William Ruto to ditch some of his close allies if he wants to succeed in his presidential quest in 2002.

Saboti MP Caleb Hamisi (ODM) said Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and his counterpart in the National Assembly Aden Duale are a great hindrance to Ruto’s ambition.

According to Hamisi, since President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga reconciled and vowed to work together, Murkomen and Duale have been making careless pronouncements against the pact which placed Ruto in an awkward situation.

“The legislators and other allies of Ruto were used to hurling insults to Raila before he joined hands with the president. The handshake between the two leaders has destabilized them and that is why they continue to speak negatively about the peace deal,” said Hamisi.

The legislator said the continued undermining of Uhuru and Raila’s peace deal will not give Duale and Murkomen the political mileage they desire but will instead make Ruto look like he is fighting with the president.

“The rising rebellion from Duale and Murkomen who openly became nervous after the famous handshake between Uhuru and Raila may bring down the deputy president’s ambition. Ruto should dump the two and other detractors if he wants to be the next president of Kenya,” Hamisi explained.

Hamisi noted that Ruto himself has consistently conducted himself with decorum despite a lot surrounding the handshake, saying his focus will reward him but only if he stops his allies from undermining Uhuru and Raila’s working relationship.

Speaking in defense of the peace pact between the 2017 general elections fiercest rivals, Hamisi said those opposed the deal are merely pursuing their selfish political interests.

“The president assured to keep his promise to support his deputy when 2022 comes and reiterated it has nothing to do with 2022 politics. The individuals politicizing the handshake are Ruto’s greatest enemies and should be dropped immediately,” added Hamisi.
